Hi Susan- back from long absense...
I must say that avian flu doesn't worry me too much, but funnily enough, we are talking about getting a pair of pet ducks and one of my stepsons is absolutely putting his foot down against it-- says we'll all catch bird flu and then we'll be sorry!

I admit to being a real Cassandra about viruses, prions, etc. Still, I'm a firm believer in that old Boy Scout motto "Be prepared"! I actually have a box-load of surgical masks on hand, ready for the day! I know, it sounds absolutely loony, but to me it's just like any other 'insurance'. I'm not actually expecting a fire, but I've got fire insurance. I wouldn't blame anyone for labelling me 'paranoid' however. :-)
I really don't care how sick the stupid bird is, there is no way I am donating any of my blood to a bird for a transfusion.
